A baby deserves all the attention in the world. When he’s born weighing 15.2 ounces, he has to have the best care available. That’s why Del Sol Medical Center has expanded our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

The new 6,600 square-foot, family-friendly, neonatal intensive care unit was designed for El Paso’s most precious deliveries in mind. The 21-bed unit features four beautiful private suites, a comprehensive surgical suite, subdued lighting, noise-reducing rubber flooring, a soothing environment, and the highest quality staff. The NICU is equipped to provide state-of-the-art specialty technology and top-quality, advanced care for premature and critically-ill babies while enhancing the bonding experience between mom, dad and baby.

“This is a very important project for Del Sol and the El Paso community. As east El Paso continues to expand and grow, Del Sol Medical Center will continually grow to meet the ever-changing needs of our community,” said Jacob Cintron, hospital chief executive officer. “It is with this in mind that we began our state-of-the-art NICU expansion project last year and now open our doors to the community,” he said.

The Del Sol NICU is the only hospital in El Paso and only one of two in Texas to feature the FDA approved Olympic Cool-Cap, which provides selective brain cooling to newborn infants with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) while maintaining core temperatures at safe levels through the use of a radiant warmer. This type of initiative reinforces Del Sol’s commitment to providing cutting-edge technology and exceptional quality care to our patients.
